Cherry Blossoms

Saturday we walked in the Botanic Garden again....The ornamental cherry trees are blooming.

And the redbuds, too.

I think often lately about how all this beauty is just there, all around, and we have done nothing to deserve it. People do nurture and protect parts of nature, but we don't create it. Simply by virtue of having been born into this life, we are blessed and enriched by it. And it simply amazes me.

For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky and sea,
We thank you, Lord.
For minds to think, and hearts to love, and hands to serve,
We thank you, Lord.
For health and strength to work, and leisure to rest and play,
We thank you, Lord.

The blossoms are beautiful. I've noticed in my neighborhood that I'm probably the only person who doesn't have some type of blooming tree in their yard. The Junipare trees are showing their white blossoms as well as the doogwoods. Me? I've got my weeping willows showing their green strands of leaves, but nothing in bloom.

Seeing the Cherry Blossoms was always a highlight of living in D.C.

Aren't they luxuriant and fabulous? They always seem to me to be unbelievably generous in their blossoming.

You look lovely too!

CG--I bet D.C. on the mall in the spring is like being in a dream. (And I love weeping willows, if I haven't already told you.)

Lucy--Oh, yes, luxuriant is the word.

And while I want to be generous and have made some progress in that, I can't compare to them! (Except perhaps that my hair is really thick, kind of like their blossoms....)
